Who We Are

Empowering Gen Z to Stand Up Safely

RiseGen is a community-powered platform created by young people, for young people. We emerged from the realization that Gen Z activists across East Africa needed more than just moral support—they needed real, tangible resources to protest safely.

When young people take to the streets to demand climate action, social justice, or political reform, they often face unexpected challenges: tear gas, arrests, injuries, and exhaustion. We exist to ensure that no young activist stands alone in these moments.

Our network of volunteers, medical professionals, lawyers, and donors works together to provide immediate assistance when it's needed most. From first aid kits distributed at protest sites to legal representation for detained activists, we cover every aspect of protest safety.

Our Purpose

What Drives Us Forward

Every action we take is guided by our commitment to protecting young voices and building a safer future for Gen Z activism.

Our Mission

To protect, empower, and uplift Gen Z during protests by providing real support when they need it most.

We achieve this through:

  • Rapid deployment of medical volunteers to protest sites
  • 24/7 legal hotline for detained activists
  • Distribution of safety equipment and supplies
  • Post-protest mental health support
  • Know-your-rights education programs

Our Vision

A world where young people can protest safely, confidently, and without fear.

We envision:

  • Every Gen Z activist knowing their rights
  • No young person detained without legal support
  • Safe spaces for youth-led movements to flourish
  • A generation that transforms society peacefully
  • East Africa leading in youth civic engagement

What We Stand For

Our Core Values

These principles guide every decision we make and every action we take in supporting Gen Z activists.

Unity

We stand together as one generation. Our strength comes from solidarity—when one of us rises, we all rise. No activist is ever alone in their struggle for change.

Safety

Everyone deserves protection. We prioritize the physical, mental, and legal safety of every young person who dares to speak up for what they believe in.

Transparency

Every donation works for Gen Z's well-being. We publish detailed reports showing exactly where funds go, because your trust is sacred to us.

Courage

Speaking up should never come with fear. We celebrate the bravery of young activists and work to ensure courage is met with support, not punishment.

"Gen Z doesn't just want change—they're building it. Our job is to make sure they can do it safely."

Our Journey

How RiseGen Began

From a small group of concerned youth to a movement protecting thousands across East Africa.

Early 2024
The Spark

A group of university students in Nairobi witnessed fellow protesters being detained without legal support. They realized someone needed to step up—and decided it would be them.

Mid 2024
Building the Network

We connected with lawyers, medical professionals, and donors who shared our vision. The first RiseGen volunteer teams were formed across Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.

Late 2024
First Major Response

During the Youth Climate March, RiseGen deployed 50 volunteers, provided first aid to 200+ protesters, and secured legal representation for 15 detained activists within hours.

2025
Growing Impact

Today, RiseGen operates across East Africa with 500+ active volunteers, partnerships with 20+ law firms, and a track record of supporting every major youth-led protest in the region.
